Course Aims
This course aims to introduce participants to the history of Islamic philosophy by focusing on key philosophers and thinkers in Islamic Philosophical tradition, like al-Kindī, Fārābī, Ibn Sīnā, etc. The course will also give the student an understanding of key and basic Islamic philosophical issues, in particular transcendental philosophy. It will enable the student to develop their own philosophical ideas on the different topics.

Format of Course
This course will continue for 8 weeks. For each week, students will watch a series of short lectures that were recorded in the MOU, as the part of an online course on Islamic philosophy. Along with the other supplementary offline lectures, readings and research paper. Each week, there are two meetings for online discussion, held on Saturdays and Thursdays. All of the necessary learning material (text/video) will be available on LMS.
Online Teacher Support
One of the most important features of this short course is will be the “Online Teacher Support”. Your online teacher is available during the course. So you don’t have to wait for certain days and time to ask your question. When you get stuck, you can contact the teacher during office hours or arrange a meeting time.
MOU strongly believes that students deserve to be helped quickly, therefore everything we do is focused on giving you a quick response when you need help, or when you have a question. You can post questions to your teacher at any time, and in most cases your teacher will respond within the same or next day.
Certification and Transfer Credits Policy
All students who successfully complete this course are eligible for a Certificate of Completion. Completion consists of submitting both course assignments, final exam and actively participating in the online classes. Certificates will be available, online and printed, for those who qualify after the course finishes.
According to MOU credits transfer policy, students who wish to participate in the degree program at MOU, can transfer these credits to their degree program.
Teaching Method
The course will deliver through a mixture of short recorded lessons and online lectures. Students will listen and watch these recorded lessons during the course. Each week you will have two online lectures. These online lectures are designed to keep you on track and help you to understand the subject thoroughly. Your online teacher will mark your assignments and give you adequate feedback and advice. It is a great opportunity to get personal feedback on your assignments and discuss matters with your teacher.
IT Requirements
Online learning is completely different from a traditional education. In online learning, all communications such as announcements, classes, group discussions, assignments’ submissions etc. are through the internet. Therefore, in order to ensure that you are fully prepared for this online course, you should be able to utilize a variety of computer technology and have access to: A computer with high-speed internet connection, headphones, a microphone, and so on.
Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for this short course. However, to obtain full benefit from this course, students will need a suitable background in the subject area.
Assessment method
Assessment for this course is based on class attendance, two written TMA’s (tutor mark assignment) and final exam.
Class attendance and participation: 20% class participation is an essential part of the course. You are required to attend all classes, on time and actively engage in the discussion.
Two written assignments: 30% (stronger assignment: 15% + weaker assignment: 10%) During the course students will submit two texts based TMA’s. Every assignment will be about 300 to 500 words.
Final Exam: 50% this will be assigned in the final week of class and it is a MCQ (multiple choice questions)
Group discussion: Participating in group discussion is optional for students.
